For all of you who choose to brave the storm this Friday, A day when wealth in the untold hundreds of millions of dollars changes hands A day when fortunes are made and lost People swarm with thousands of others in a massive frenzy A madness that sweeps the nation Remember, you chose to embrace the madness Choosing to go out in the crush of agitated people There are those of us who would rather be anywhere else in the world Stressed, overwhelmed by the day long dreaded Some who first see the day long before the sun, They may not breathe the free air of the outdoors again Until long after the last of you have eaten your Thanksgiving leftovers, and tucked children into bed So be kind to the harried folks behind the counter this nightmare day The salespeople trapped in the stores while you press through the crowds Are you just another snarling face to them, another shopping monster? Never forget, you can be the one that makes a difference to those trapped souls A single smile amidst the crush can brighten a moment A ray of light in the hurricane For if the price of the gifts you buy this day is misery for some lad or lass Is what you find today worthy of the spirit of The Yuletide season?
Selene
PS The salesperson you push over the edge may well be a boxer
A note for those who don’t live in the USA: Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving, the “official” start of the Christmas holiday season, when hordes of shoppers descend on stores in the wee hours of the morning, with nothing on their minds but getting to the sale merchandise first, no matter what it takes.
PPS Please share this anywhere you can, that people might listen. I have to be careful, lest this be held against me at work--the First Amendment isn't honored there, even when one isn't AT work...
I bet you dread all those ole fellas who come on, trying to be funny . . . usually embarressing their wives in front of the queue (you do queue in the States, don`t you?)
I work retail myself so I can understand that (granted i'm in the grocery section of a "one stop shop store" walmart, kmart, target etc.) So I'm not facing ALL of the masses but I've been there and I've seen it and yeah it can be scary/overwhelming.
Thanks for reaching out to the masses and saying something, appreciate it.
man I got the night shift next week so I wont be home till 3 am. I thank you for these words, not many understand that us retail workers go through living hell just to make sure the customers are happy
Thanks for reaching out to the masses and saying something, appreciate it.
good luck and best wishes !
